Research Group on Socio-Educational Interventions in Childhood and Youth

Identity

The Research Group on Socio-Educational Interventions in Childhood and Youth (GRISIJ), a transdisciplinary group linked to the University of Barcelona, was founded in 1995 and has been recognised as a consolidated group by the Government of Catalonia since 2005.

Its research, which is predominantly applied, is reflected in its close collaboration with professionals who work with children, adolescents and families in situations of vulnerability, risk and/or neglect, directly impacting public policy to transform socio-educational practices. The group’s track record has enabled it to accumulate knowledge that positions it as a national and international benchmark in the field, actively pursuing its scientific commitment to science and the dissemination of knowledge.

Its mission is to transform socio-educational interventions for the benefit of the well-being of children and adolescents, emphasising support for parenting, respect for their rights and the adoption of a positive, community-based approach.

Through participatory and collaborative models, the GRISIJ group has built a scientific framework that places children and adolescents at the centre of socio-educational interventions and, consequently, work with their families. The active participation of children, adolescents and their families in the research processes is a catalyst that enables them to transform their reality. GRISIJ’s identity is distinguished by its innovation in the care and protection of children, adolescents and their families; by promoting initial and continuing training for professionals based on good practices, adopting an inclusive approach that pays special attention to the intersectional perspective of gender, the community approach and internationalisation. All of this reflects GRISIJ’s commitment to research, training and professional practice based on excellence and generating a social impact that enables the positive development of children, adolescents and their families.

Vision

We aspire to be a benchmark in socio-educational research at national and international level, recognised for our ability to positively influence policies and practices that affect children and young people. We want a more just and equitable future, where all children and young people have access to opportunities that allow them to develop fully and actively participate in society. Our vision involves a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the ongoing training of professionals.

Mission

Our mission is to research and analyse socio-educational interventions in childhood and youth, with a focus on improving policies and practices that promote the well-being, social inclusion and comprehensive development of these groups. We are committed to generating rigorous and applicable knowledge that allows professionals in the sector to design and implement effective programmes, adapted to the real needs of children and adolescents in diverse situations.

History

The GRISIJ group (Research Group on Socio-Educational Interventions in Childhood and Youth) was created in 1995 to address the lack of knowledge and intervention methodologies that existed within the field of social maladjustment and child protection.

The interest and experience of the group members led to the formation of a multidisciplinary team with a theoretical-practical perspective that would help raise awareness of these needs and initiate a research process that would provide answers to the practice of professionals.

In this way, the GRISIJ group emerged with the main objective of creating scientific reference frameworks and transforming them into resources for socio-educational action that help children in situations of vulnerability.

The group’s lines of research are therefore in the areas of child protection, positive parenting and health promotion, taking into account cross-cutting approaches to these lines of research of the group, such as resilience, positive development of adolescence or information and communication technologies.

To achieve this objective, the group focuses all its efforts on research, training and knowledge transfer, taking into account gender perspective, open access and ethics.
